Alexander |
|
Alexander is a 4 year-old who enjoys playing with his
19-month old sister, Kayla and his six-year-old brother Peter. When he
isn't playing with his siblings, Alexander likes to write and even won
the reading award at the Ellison-Parks Early Education Center 1 day
prior to his diagnosis. Alexander was diagnosed with a very rare
condition HLH (hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis) and is now urgently
searching for a matching donor. |

Anand |
|
Anand's picture is a perfect example of the idea that
looks can be deceiving. Here he looks happy and playful and it is
hard to accept that he is a 21 month old boy who has been recently
diagnosed with AML. Anand loves playing catch with his brother and
spending time outdoors. He, like all AML patients, needs a matched
transplant and must rely on the compassion of volunteer marrow/blood
cell donors to be cured of this dreaded disease. We need to
recruit as many potential donors as possible to provide Anand and all
other patients with a second chance at life. |

Erica |
|
Originally from Santa Maria, CA, Erica went to
Occidental College in Southern California to finish her studies in
comparative literature and politics, and also studied abroad in Paris.
She has been to over 25 countries, including teaching in Tokyo for a
year. All of this international interest also led her to Washington DC
to be part of the US Foreign Service Department. However, at 26 and
after only 5 weeks at Tufts for her MA, she was diagnosed with acute
lymphocytic leukemia. Being biracial, Chinese and Caucasian, we need
more mixed raced donors to register.
Erica received her bone marrow transplant in May
2008 from an unrelated donor. She suffered a 3rd relapse and passed away
in December 2008.

Greg |
|
Greg underwent chemotherapy for 2 ½ years
starting in May of 2000. Unfortunately, the leukemia relapsed this May.
This means that it is resistant to chemo. The best chance for a cure for
this disease is a blood cell or bone marrow transplant.

Janice |
|
Janice is a Chinese American who resides in the San
Francisco bay area. After finding several lumps on her neck, Janice was
diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia in 2003 on her birthday.
With no other living immediate relatives except her half brother who did
not come up as a match, time is running short for Janice. Be a bone
marrow donor so that she, and other patients, can continue living the
life she loves of gourmet cooking, skiing, and film. |

Jerome |

A message from Jerome
â
€
¦My name is Jerome Williams and I was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid
Leukemia (CML) in 2003 and if I don
â
€
™t have a marrow transplant soon I will die. I
â
€
™m African American, French and Native American which makes my search
for a marrow donor all the more difficult since matching is based on one
â
€
™s genetic makeup. To our detriment, people of color are grossly
underrepresented in the national marrow donor registry. What this means
is if you or someone you love is in need of a marrow transplant the odds
of finding a marrow donor is highly unlikely. Countless lives may be
saved as a result of healthy people giving of themselves to assist those
that are not as healthy. |

Jodie |
|
Jodie is a 34 year-old loving wife and caring mother of
two. She loves to cook, sing and play the guitar. She is also a devoted
Christian. On November 10, 2008, Jodie was diagnosed with Severe
Aplastic Anemia, a rare blood disorder in which her bone marrow no
longer produces the cells necessary to carry oxygen through her body,
fight infection, or clot her blood. As a result, she is too weak to care
for her family. The only way for Jodie to fully recover is through a
bone marrow transplant. |

Krissy |
|
Krissy Kobata is 26 and loves being with her friends and
family. She was diagnosed with a blood disorder called Myelodysplastic
Syndrome (MDS) that will eventually require a bone marrow transplant.
MDS is a primary bone marrow condition, where her bone marrow does not
produce normal blood cells. The condition is otherwise known as
"preleukemia".
Typically MDS is diagnosed in 60+ year old
men, Krissy is a vibrant 26 year old woman. Ethnicity is a key factor in
finding a bone marrow "match" and Krissy's family is of mixed
heritage - Japanese and Caucasian - which has made it more difficult for
her to find a donor match. More diverse donors are needed!

Leo |
|
Leo was diagnosed with CML, a form of Leukemia, in
December 2007. Until recently, his oral medications have worked well at
keeping the disease under control. Now that his CML has developed into a
more advanced stage, his doctors have determined that he will need a
bone marrow transplant in order to get better. Unfortunately, Leo
â
€
™s brother was not a match. Leo is of Filipino descent and hopes that
through his efforts, those of his friends, family and other caring
individuals, he will find a match soon. |

Matthew |
|
After being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in June 2007,
Matthew underwent chemotherapy for sixteen months.
Â
He was in remission until February 2009 when he relapsed. During his
undergrad years at UCLA, Matthew worked closely with Asians for Miracle
Marrow Matches (A3M) helping blood cancer patients look for matching
marrow donors.
Â
Ironically, he now needs your help in finding a donor. PLEASE register
and help us find a bone marrow match.
Â
YOU could be the one to give him and others a second chance.

Naren |
|
Seven years ago, Naren was diagnosed with non-hodgkin's
lymphoma. Immediately, he underwent chemotherapy and then an autologous
transplant and achieved remission. Unfortunately, a few years later
Naren's disease relapsed, and now he needs a marrow transplant from an
unrelated donor.

Nico |
|
Nico is a heart-warming boy who was diagnosed with
leukemia at age 6. Now he is 9 years old and the leukemia has
relapsed. He will need a bone marrow transplant to be cured
of this devastating disease. We are asking the Asian community for
help by registering to be a marrow donor. You can help him live a
happy, healthy life with his Dad, Mom, older brother and younger sister
by registering as a marrow donor.

Paul |
|
Paul-Alexander Lerro, an adorable 5-year old, was
diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) in February 2005. He has
not found a match within his family and has turned to the NMDP for help.
Little Paul is now in remission but if his leukemia relapses, he will
need a matching donor as soon as possible. Paul will most likely find a
match within the Filipino community. However, Filipinos make up only
0.7% of the entire registry and a registry does not exist in the
Philippines.

Soontaree |
|
Soontaree is 28 years old and has been blessed with a
really wonderful life. Raised in Southern California, she graduated from
UC Riverside with a B.A. in Business Economics. However, her passion for
dancing led her to choose a different career path. She danced in various
stage shows at Disneyland for five years before moving on to dance on
three different Holland America cruise ships. On her last cruise ship
contract, found and fell in love with Michael. Unfortunately, Soontaree
was diagnosed with AML. She was told that she would most likely not be
able to have children because of chemotherapy, but she and her husband
still dream of adopting children of their own. Both Soontaree and
Michael still have so many dreams to accomplish and will never take life
for granted.

Stacy |
|
Stacy was diagnosed with MDS in October of 2006 and is
in need of a bone marrow transplant. Her only brother is,
unfortunately, not a match. Because of her mixed racial background
(Korean/Caucasian), finding a match in the registry has been a
challenge. She currently works as a Marketing Representative for an
insurance company in San Diego and loves the outdoors, hiking, and
taking her dogs to the park. |

Steven |
|
From Ithaca, NY, Steven really enjoys
playing basketball and doing magic tricks.
However,
now that he is back in the hospital after
his transplant
didn't work out, he again is searching for
his perfect
match and is unable to do the things he
really enjoys
as any 18 year old would. He hopes to become
an engineer
in the future, so please, help him find a
match! |

Tara |

A 24-year-old Korean adoptee was
diagnosed with hypoplastic myelodysplastic
syndrome

Theo |
|
Theo (18) was born in South Korea. He was adopted by
Mike and Juli's family in 1990. Theo was loved and nurtured and grew to
be a strong and handsome young man, a natural athlete and soup lover
with a penchant for anything spicy-hot. In the middle of Fall lacrosse
(October 2007), just months short of his 18th birthday, he was rushed to
Hershey Medical Center with an acute and rare form of leukemia. Theo
â
€
™s best chance for eradicating the cancer is to have a bone marrow
transplant. Since he has no known biological siblings, he must find a
donor match from an unrelated donor. |

Thanh Lan |
|
Thanh Lan (Tanny) is a 38-year-old mother living in
London with her loving husband and two young children. She was diagnosed
with Non-Hodgkin's Follicular Lymphoma and is in dire need of a matching

travel and show the world to her children. You may be the marrow match
that can help her achieve that dream. |

Eva |
|
Eva was born in Canton, China, and raised and educated
in Hong Kong,
Taiwan, and the United States. She is married
to Paul, has two
children, Jason and Rachel (Rae), and held a
30 year career in the
United States. From when she was first
diagnosed with MDS (12 years
ago) until now, Eva has been able to maintain
an active lifestyle in
spite of her condition. About one month ago
her MDS became acute. Her
only alternative for survival is to have a
bone marrow transplant. The
more people who register to be a potential
marrow donor for Eva, the
greater our chances of finding a match soon.
Because ethnicity is a
factor in tissue type matching, we are
especially inviting our Asian
friends, relatives, friends of friends and
community members to
register. Here is a message from Eva:
"I want to stay alive because I haven't finished all that I had
planned to do on this earth; including, being around for my loving
husband, my creative daughter, my son's upcoming wedding and my aging
beagle."

Wincheng |
|
In 1998, Wincheng organized a bone marrow drive,
trying to save the life of a young Chinese American MIT
undergrad. Now she needs your help to find her a match!
On June 9, 2006, 26 year old Wincheng Lin was
diagnosed with AUL, an extremely rare combination of AML and ALL with a
tumor the size of a grapefruit in her chest. Although she is
completing several rounds of chemotherapy, doctors believe this
might not be enough. Due to the rare form of Leukemia she
has, a bone marrow transplant is her best bet for a cure. Neither of
Wincheng's two sisters are bone marrow matches for
her. So far, no match has been found. Wincheng and
other patients like her needs your help. Wincheng is in remission and is
doing well at this time.
